SPEAKER: KRIS LEHNHARDT
“Please state the nature of the medical emergency: preparing for medicine on Mars”
As NASA prepares for the first human mission to Mars (targeted for the 2030’s), risk analysis has demonstrated that human system and medical risks become increasingly significant as the mission duration and distance from Earth increase. This lecture will outline some of the work at NASA to mitigate the medical risks associated with exploration spaceflight, including trade space analysis, medical system design, technology demonstrations, and the development of new medical capabilities.
KRIS LEHNHARDT is the Element Scientist for Exploration Medical Capability in the Human Research Program at the NASA Johnson Space Center. He is also an Associate Professor at the Baylor College of Medicine in the Center for Space Medicine and the Department of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Lehnhardt is board-certified in Emergency Medicine in both Canada and the U.S.A, and he works clinically in the Emergency Department at the Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, TX.
